Frequently asked questions

Pricing, permits, timelines and the questions people on this coast ask us most often.

Do you charge for a quote?

No. Site visits and written proposals are free anywhere inside our service area — Del Norte County and the southern Oregon coast up to Brookings. Outside that radius we'll quote a travel fee before scheduling, and credit it against the job if you proceed.

How quickly can you come out?

Non-urgent site visits are usually booked within three to five working days. Emergencies — a dead kitchen hood mid-service, a seized exhaust fan, smoke migration — are dispatched within four hours for maintenance-agreement clients and same day for everyone else wherever the schedule allows.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. We hold an active California C-20 HVAC contractor license, carry general liability and commercial auto insurance, and cover all technicians under California workers' compensation. Copies of the license and a certificate of insurance are brought to the site visit and can be emailed in advance.

Do you work on homes or only commercial buildings?

Both. Roughly 60% of our volume is commercial — restaurants, clinics, schools, processing facilities — and the rest is residential, from single bath fan replacements to whole-home HRV systems in retrofitted cottages.

Will I need a permit?

Often, yes. Duct replacement, new equipment installation and any commercial kitchen exhaust work generally requires a permit from the City of Crescent City or Del Norte County. We tell you at proposal stage whether one applies, who pulls it, and what it costs. We do not start permit-required work without one.

How much does a whole-home ventilation system cost?

For a typical Crescent City home, a balanced HRV or ERV system with dedicated ducting usually lands between $3,400 and $7,800 installed, depending on house size, duct routing difficulty and the unit selected. Simple exhaust-only upgrades start much lower, around $390 for a single fan replacement.

Why does my house smell damp even with the windows open?

On this coast, outdoor air is frequently at 85–95% relative humidity. Opening windows on a foggy morning can add moisture rather than remove it. The fix is usually controlled, continuous mechanical ventilation with recovery, plus finding the cold surfaces where moisture is condensing. That's what our indoor air quality assessment measures.

Do you service equipment you didn't install?

Yes, and a good share of our maintenance work is exactly that. We'll assess the existing system honestly — including telling you when a unit is close enough to end of life that repair money is better spent elsewhere.

How long does a commercial hood installation take?

From accepted proposal to inspection sign-off, typically two to three weeks: about a week for stainless fabrication, two to four days on site, then balancing and inspection. Occupied restaurants are normally worked around service hours or over a scheduled closure.

What happens if something breaks after you leave?

Our labour carries a two-year warranty and equipment carries its manufacturer term, typically five to ten years. Warranty calls are scheduled within two business days and cost you nothing. We also register your equipment with the manufacturer on your behalf, which is the step that most often gets skipped elsewhere.

Do you offer maintenance contracts?

Yes — two-visit and four-visit annual plans starting at $420. Both include filters, belt and bearing checks, damper and control verification, airflow readings, priority scheduling and 10% off any parts or additional labour.

Can you help with a Title 24 or inspection deadline?

Usually. Tell us the date on the first call. We keep a small amount of schedule deliberately unbooked for compliance deadlines, and we'll be straight with you if the timeline isn't achievable rather than taking a deposit and hoping.
